About This One Sunrise
This website was created as a source of information, mostly relating to the environment, and maybe a little something on news, politics, and other issues in the world. It may be highly opinionated, and it may be non-biased, but usually it’s somewhere in between. Right now, I (Christina) am the only writer, so if you would like to contribute, please let me know. This One Sunrise welcomes comments and discussion/debate, which can be as/more interesting as/than the article itself. However, do keep your feedback appropriate, and that would be greatly appreciated. If I’m wrong on something, please, do correct me.
About Me
My name is Christina Zhou, and I am a high school student from Long Island, New York. When I was younger, I believed that the environment was one of the most important issues facing humankind, and with problems such as climate change, habitat loss, invasive species, and pollution, my position has not changed. I appreciate all that people are doing, but I’m disappointed that certain groups refuse to acknowlege the importance of global warming and other issues, including those I have listed above, and I hope that soon they will open their eyes. I belong to the Treehugger Environmental Club at my school, and participate actively within it. I also participated in the B Division of Science Olympiad for 4 long years, where I studied topics from trees to forensics, from ecology to entomology. I attended BELLII (Brown Environmental Leadership Lab) the summer of sophomore year, and learned about leadership, invasive species, research, presentation of data, and other, while making amazing friendships. That was an experience I will never forget, and the name of the website, This One Sunrise, is derived from a poem I wrote there about the times that I had.
Besides all this, I’m a pretty normal high school student. I enjoy listening to music, especially alternative (Yellowcard dominates this genre), indie, and progressive rock. I also play field hockey for my school team, and ping pong for leisure. I love being outside and in the natural world. I play the guzheng, a Chinese instrument, as well as the clarinet for school and the piano, though I do not take lessons for the latter two. I enjoy reading and writing and also painting, though I do not have much time for the latter. Lastly, I don’t watch that much television, but I’ve made it a priority to sit in front of the system on Monday nights to catch 24. Well, that’s all I have to say for now.
